Strengthening collaborations in LESGO

In the context of her participation at the Nanospain Conference 2023 at the end of April, researcher Inna Khairani from the University of Wuppertal visited IREC and ICFO colleagues.

The researcher visited the IREC and ICFO facilities in Barcelona and Castelldefels, Spain. The visit, which took place at the end of April, aimed to enhance collaborations and facilitate knowledge exchange within the project.

During her visit to IREC, Khairani received training on various techniques by the hand of Nina Carretero, Yago Domínguez and Sebastián Murcia, including the rotating disc electrode, spraying methods and the catalysis process for reducing nitrous oxide. She also explored battery cell analysis and learned about the Raman spectroscopy principles from Robert Fonoll, a PhD student at the center. She also saw the large flow cell designated for the LESGO project. The collaboration between the University of Wuppertal’s team and IREC is incredibly tight on Work Package 3, which focuses on designing and fabricating catalysts for the electrochemical cell’s cathodic part.

At ICFO, Khairani toured the laboratories of the Organic Nanostructured Photovoltaics group with PhD student Sidney Palardonio and learned about the application of Raman spectroscopy for sample measurements. Although there is no direct collaboration between BUW and the ICFO team, previous discussions have explored the potential use of rare-earth-free high-entropy alloys as catalysts.

Khairani’s visit to IREC and ICFO research centers provided valuable insights into the latest advancements in scientific exploration, fostering the collaborative spirit of the LESGO project.
